You’ve finally decided to start your natural hair journey but are unsure on what natural products are best. It’s completely normal to feel a little bewildered when it comes to searching for the right tools to grow your mane. The market for natural hair products has reached a level of saturation even the pro naturals get overwhelmed. To make sticking on your natural hair journey easy, we’ve listed some of our favourite natural hair friendly products. So, enjoy!
Your Type 4 hair needs to be cleansed from the dirt and excessive oils we recruit everyday. Build up on our curls will give the illusion that our hair is limp, stiff, and lifeless – when in reality this is far from the case.
Washing your hair once a week will allow for your scalp to breath, new growth to blossom, and leave your afro as lightweight and bouncy as possible.
Low manipulation styles such as cornrows, flat twists, and mini twists are a great way to aid growth. Now, this is not to say your hair will grow faster in these styles than other. But using LMS will reduces the amount of times you touch your hair less which allows for uninterrupted hair growth. It is critical to avoid braiding your hair too tight. Tight protective styles will cause stress to your scalp and hair loss when undoing the styles.
Think of your deep conditioner as a fancy Kardashian wellness filled IV pumping through your arm after a weekend of bad decisions. Okay deep conditioners don’t exactly work like an IV. However, deep conditioner does seep deeply into your strands working to cote and rejuvenate your natural hair. Any dry or itchiness you may be experiencing should disappear after a 15 – 30min date with DC. It’s important to note, deep conditioning your hair for extended periods of time (such as 30 minutes) is beneficial for your coarse hair. Lengthy deep conditions allow your hair to fully absorb treatment promoting healthy hair growth.
After shampoo, section your hair and apply a considerable amount of product to your dome. For a 15 minute treatment, place a plastic bag over your hair and sit under dryer. Rinse out after 15 minutes. If you don’t have access to a dryer, place plastic bag over hair for 30 minutes. Rinse out after 30 minutes.
After shampoo, section hair into small parts and apply a generous amount of conditioner. For a 10-15 minute treatment place hair in a plastic bag underneath a dryer then wash out. Or if you are without a dryer, place a plastic bag over your hair and wait between 35-60 minutes before rinsing out.
Once your shampoo is rinsed out. Part hair into sections and apply conditioner to your hair. For 15 minutes treatment apply plastic bag to hair, place hair under dryer, then thoroughly rinse hair. For a 30 minute deep condition, place plastic bag over your hair for 30 minutes without the use of dryer, then rinse hair.
Leave conditioner on your hair for five minutes after shampoo. For deeper conditioning, leave product on hair for 30 minutes with a plastic bag, cover hair under dryer, then rinse.
Apply to both dry or wet hair. Leave on hair without plastic bag for 20 minutes, then rinse. For extra conditioning place hair under dryer for 20 minutes with plastic bag, then rinse hair.
Distribute equal amount throughout hair and leave on hair for 20 minutes., then rinse. No heat needed.
Apply product after shampoo has been rinsed out. Place plastic bag over hair and place hair underneath a dryer for 15 minutes, then wash product out of hair.
For deep conditioning apply product then cover your hair with a plastic bag. Wait 30 minutes under a dryer, then rinse.
The liquid, oil, and cream method is an effective way to lock moisture into your locks. The liquid is for hydration, oil is for moisture, and the cream is to prevent moisture loss. Provided you use the correct products, this method will leave your curls hydrated and defined along with feeling super soft.
Using a spray bottle is a quick and easy way to apply these oils in your hair everyday in under a minute. Mix the oils below with water in a spray bottle, shake, and squirt. Follow this up with one of our recommended hair butters/creams below. Your hair will love you for it!
